A Place to Bury Strangers

The Loudest Band in New York and owner of the best album in 2009 in my opinion, only for you...

Tell us something about A Place to Bury Strangers?

A Place To Bury Strangers is a band that writes music that we want to
hear and that is personal to us.

A brief history of how the band started?

The band started when I moved from Virginia to New York and just
continued to write songs. It has had a few different musicians in the
band throughout the years and now includes Jay Space and Jono Mofo
from an NYC band Mofo.

I think that A Place To Bury Strangers is an amazing name. Do you know where is the place?

To each their own. I think when you come to that point you can't go back.

A Place To Bury Strangers - Keep Slipping Away

I really love your sound. Are you shoegaze? Or Noise? Or both? Or nothing of that?

I don't know, I think we are just creating music, it could perhaps be
in a certain genre but it is not intentional for it to be so.

Are you really "New York City's loudest band"?

Some say this is true but I don't know, I have never seen us play.

Have you ever had troubles if the show was too loud?

Sure, lots of times. We have been cut off, thrown out of venues, had
the cops break up shows and blown the power at many places.

I think that "Exploding head" is one of the best records of 2009, and I didn't hear your first record, yet. What are the main differences between them?

Exploding Head is more of an attempt to capture what we do live and
the old record was more of a collection of songs. I really tried to
focus on getting interesting sounds and textures with as few of
instruments and tracks as possible.

Are there any song that you would like to cover and any artist that you would like to play with?

Cobraspa - Dumb Is Fun

Song/album that changed your life?

Cocteau Twins - Garlands

Which do you prefer, cd, vinyl or mp3?

Cassette

What do you listen when you're at home, on tour, right now…?

At home it is quite eclectic, Bongo Joe, Minor Threat, Grooms, Hazil
Atkins, Darker My Love. On tour it is what I have on my ipod and what
everyone else dj's so stuff you can find on mp3.

It's the end of the year. Do you have your own favourites of the 2009?

Au Revoir Simone, Crystal Stilts, Dan Deacon, Japandroids, These Are Powers

Tell me something I would never guess about you?

I am a happy go lucky kind of guy.

Thank you so much for your time. Is there anything else you'd like to say to our readers?

Just follow your heart and do whatever you absolutely love.
